LINES

LINES

Kite lines are critical load-bearing components that connect the rider to the kite and directly affect control, response and safety. They connect the rider to the kite through the control bar and transmit all input directly to the kite.

We provide replacement and custom kite lines, extensions and related parts, with configurable lengths and end loop types to match different bar systems and riding styles.

At Dr.Tuba, we have partnered with LIROS since our early beginnings to ensure consistent, high-performance line production.

Kite Lines Overview

Kite lines are typically made from high-strength Dyneema fibers such as SK75 or SK99. Key factors include diameter, breaking strength and stretch characteristics.

Lower stretch improves control precision, while higher strength ensures safety under load. Line diameter also affects aerodynamic drag and performance in light wind.

Why LIROS Ropes?

LIROS is a German manufacturer of high-performance technical ropes used in yachting, kitesurfing, paragliding and industrial applications. Production is fully controlled in-house, ensuring consistent material quality and manufacturing precision.

The LIROS NCS (Nano Coating System) improves abrasion resistance and UV stability of advanced fibers such as Dyneema, Vectran and PBO. This results in longer service life and more stable performance under demanding conditions.

General specifications of LIROS ropes used for kite lines:

  • 100 percent Dyneema SK75 or SK99 fibers
  • Very low stretch and creep under load
  • Advanced PU coating for improved abrasion resistance

These properties result in reduced wear, longer lifespan and consistent handling characteristics over time.

Custom Kite Lines and Configurations

We offer fully configurable kite lines built to order.

You can define:

  • Line length
  • Line type and material
  • End loop type on each side
  • Color options (depending on line type)

This allows exact replacement of original lines or custom setups for specific riding styles.

All lines are pre-tensioned and produced using industrial sewing equipment to ensure consistent quality and performance.

End Loops and Connections

Kite lines use different loop and connection types depending on the bar system and brand.

We can produce:

  • Standard or covered sewn loops
  • Slipced loops for high-load applications
  • Custom loop combinations for compatibility with different systems and/or to match original setups

Correct loop selection is essential for proper connection between lines, bar and kite.

Line Types and Applications

Different line types are used depending on their function:

  • Flying lines, main front and back lines connecting bar to kite
  • Extensions, used to adjust total line length
  • Bridle lines, used on the kite itself
  • Depower and safety lines, part of the control system
  • Line pigtails to fine tune the feeling of the kite

Each type has specific requirements for strength, stretch and diameter.

Compatibility and Replacement

Kite lines and loop types vary between brands and models.

Before ordering, it is important to:

  • Verify line length and configuration
  • Check loop types and connection system
  • Ensure compatibility with your control bar

If unsure, you can contact us with your setup details.

Production and Quality Control

All lines are produced using professional sewing machines and high-quality threads.

Each line is:

  • Precisely cut to length
  • Professionally sewn or spliced
  • Pre-tensioned before delivery

This ensures stable performance and minimal initial stretch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What material are kite lines made from?
A: Most kite lines are made from Dyneema fibers such as SK75 or SK99, known for high strength, low stretch and good abrasion resistance.

Q: What is the difference between SK75 and SK99?
A: SK99 offers higher strength and lower stretch at smaller diameters, while SK75 provides balanced performance, durability and cost efficiency.

Q: Can I order custom line lengths?
A: Yes, all lines can be produced to custom lengths based on your setup and requirements.

Q: Can I choose different loop types?
A: Yes, loop types can be configured for each end of the line depending on compatibility requirements. It is recommended to check the original loop configuration on your existing lines before ordering.

Q: Should I replace one line or the full set?
A: Replacing a full set is recommended to avoid uneven stretch and inconsistent performance. In some cases, a single line can be replaced, however differences in stretch between old and new lines may affect handling and kite balance.

Q: What is SK99+ Dyneema?
A: SK99 is a defined Dyneema fiber grade. The term “SK99+” is not an official material classification but is sometimes used as a marketing term. When comparing lines, it is more relevant to evaluate actual specifications such as diameter, breaking strength and coating quality rather than naming alone.
